Local Fruit Still Life, 2019, consists of four still life photographs. Each photograph depicts the same fruits purchased on the same day at each of the four grocery stores near my home. Along with the name of the store, one can see the price of each purchase printed underneath. This contextualizes the otherwise repetitive and seemingly mundane depictions of fruit and raises questions. Why are prices different for the same food? How do corporations cater to specific communities? How can we find beauty in a consumerist and commodified society? How do we reconcile mundane every day actions and the system behind them?
